EarthQuaker Devices have take two of their fuzz-based success stories and mashed them up into one pedal. This two-for-one stompbox gives you both the Hoof and the Tone Reaper, amounting to countless fuzz variations. While both of the original pedals use a combo of germanium and silicon diodes, they couldn't do it more differently. So, while the Hoof puts all the weight on the bass and warmth, the Tone Reaper opens everything up and adds some sparkle. Both effects respond immediately to playing dynamics and the volume pot of your guitar, and here, you don't just get the Hoof and Tone Reaper, but the sweet added extra of an old-school octave-up effect.

The Hoof Reaper V2: More Than the Sum of its Parts

While they can, of course, be combined, the Hoof and Reaper can be used independently since both circuits are isolated from one another and come with dedicated tone controls. Even if you're not sticking your signal through any fuzz, the octave-up effect can even be used on its own. But that's not why you use this pedal. You use this pedal so that you can kick in the Hoof, add the Reaper, and then throw everything through the octave-up - just to see what happens. The Earthquaker Devices HoofReaper is a dark master of fuzz, and since this is the second edition, it comes coated in gold paint and planted with a rust-brown print.
